Indian Textile

Original work informed by the block-print, dye and textile traditions of the Indian subcontinent.

Curator's statement

Indian Textile takes its structure from cloth: block-print repetition, resist-dye edges, borders within borders. The intricacy is real but controlled, so the work reads as pattern rather than noise. Original contemporary composition built on textile logic — repeat, border, ground — rather than copying any existing print.

Design philosophy

Textile logic — repeat, border, ground. Controlled intricacy; never a copy of an existing print.

Colour system

Indigo, madder red, turmeric, ivory, deep teal, warm brass.

Shape language

Block-print repeats, resist-dye edges, layered borders, dense controlled pattern.

Composition

Every piece must be a genuinely original composition. No imitation of an identifiable artist's distinctive style, no reproduction of an existing artwork, and never derived from another DALFASTART artwork. Treat the source culture with respect: no stereotypes, no sacred or ceremonial objects used decoratively, and no use of closed cultural practices. Suitable for international audiences and clearly an original contemporary interpretation rather than a traditional artefact.

Ideal spaces

Homes, restaurants, boutique hospitality, richly-layered interiors.

Print formats

1:1, 2:3, 3:4, 4:5.
